Throughout the evening, guests will enjoy a curated photo exhibition “Czech Republic in Images” by Richard Šrek, a multimedia presentation introducing the Czech Republic and highlighting key Czech projects, as well as the intention to establish a Czech expatriate association and a Czech brewery in Phnom Penh.

The program further includes traditional Czech cuisine, classical music performances, an exhibition of Czech glass art, and a selection of Czech literature in English translation.

This gripping short confronts one of the country’s darkest ongoing abuses against women: the witch-hunt.

ZURAWSKI v. TEXAS (USA, 99 min, Dir. Maisie Crow): Denied life-saving care under Texas’s harsh abortion bans, a group of women join forces with a fearless attorney and take the state to court. As their case unfolds, so do the devastating personal stories behind it—revealing what happens when reproductive healthcare disappears. A powerful, urgent call for justice.

STRENGTH (Cambodia, 15 min, Dir. Sao Sopheak): Phnom Penh’s skyline is rising fast – built by thousands of countryside workers, a third of them women. Filmmaker Sao Sopheak follows one of these women, capturing resilience, risk and the hidden human cost behind the city’s rapid transformation.

MINERITA (Bolivia, 28 min, Dir. Raúl de la Fuente): In the shadow of Potosí’s mines, women face daily threats—from domestic and sexual violence to the deadly dangers of the mines themselves. This powerful short reveals the brutal reality of surviving in one of the world’s harshest environments.

WEAVING DREAM (Malaysia, 4 min, Dir. Ibtisem Ben Nassib): Meet Isham, a single mother from Malaysia’s B40 community who turns her life around through NGO Women of Will. With new entrepreneurial skills, she builds a thriving sewing centre—and becomes a community leader lifting other women out of poverty.

STRANGLED (Cambodia, 40 min — Dir. Robin Narciso): From Phnom Penh to Poipet to Ratanakiri, three Cambodian women battle microfinance debt with heartbreaking consequences: a failed business, a family abandoned, grueling scavenging for survival, and land on the brink of confiscation. A raw, urgent look at the human toll of predatory lending.

SOMEWHERE UNDER THE RAINBOW (Cambodia, 30 min; Dir. Sao Sopheak). Sao Sopheak profiles Sou Sotheavy—likely the only Cambodian transgender woman to survive both the Khmer Rouge and the AIDS epidemic. A fearless LGBTQ+ pioneer, Sotheavy founded CMWD, Cambodia’s first LGBTQ+ support NGO, and earned the 2014 David Kato Vision & Voice Award. A remarkable portrait of courage, activism, and survival.

FAMILY IN TRANSITION (Israel, 70 min, Dir. Ofir Trainin): In a small Israeli town, one family faces a seismic shift when their father transitions. The mother stands by her partner through every step—until an unexpected turn upends their new balance. An intimate, emotional look at love, identity, and the complexities of change.

SIDE BY SIDE (Cambodia, 21 min; Dir. Ly Polen) explores the intimate history of an indigenous elderly couple in rural Cambodia as they recount their unique marriage story during the Cambodian genocide to their granddaughter. The film highlights themes of cultural preservation, historical trauma, and resilience through the lens of daily life and nature.

WE EXIST IN MEMORIES (Venezuela, 13 min; Dir. Darian Woehr): How do you rebuild a home made only of memories? This intimate film enters the quiet conversations of Maria and her granddaughter Marucha—two Indigenous refugees navigating life in displacement. For Maria, the Venezuelan delta still lives in her heart; for Marucha, refugee camps are the only world she’s known. A tender look at how land, memory, and identity shape a new generation far from home.

TWICE COLONIZED (Greenland, 92 min, Dir. Lin Alluna): Aaju Peter is unstoppable—an Inuit lawyer, activist, and guardian of Arctic Indigenous rights. She challenges colonial powers in Canada and Denmark with fiery clarity and disarming wit, pushing Western audiences to confront their legacy. While campaigning to build an Indigenous forum at the EU, Aaju also faces a wrenchingly personal journey of healing after the loss of her youngest son. A powerful portrait of resistance, resilience, and reclamation.

A DAY OFF FROM THE FACTORY (Cambodia, 7 min; Dir. Sao Sopheak) – Part of a series portraying the daily realities of Cambodia’s garment workers, produced in collaboration with the ILO’s Better Factories Cambodia program and Meta House. The project brought together students from Meta House’s film school and Western documentarians to capture riveting insider stories of the country’s largest industry.

MADE IN ETHIOPIA (Ethiopia, 91 min; Dir. Xinyan You)- As a sprawling Chinese factory complex pushes to expand in rural Ethiopia, three women pursue new opportunities—only to see their hopes tested by harsh realities of rapid industrialization. A gripping look at ambition, global investment, and the human cost of development.

SAVE MY DAUGHTER (Cambodia, 5 min; Dir. Vandy Denasophealeap & Mao Sambath): This award-winning short film—winner of Klahaan’s national SRHR competition and screened at Chaktomuk Short Film Festival 2025—tackles sexual and reproductive health and rights, focusing on victim blaming and date rape. Co-director Mao Sambath, also known for the thriller Missing, is one of Cambodia’s emerging filmmakers and will join for a Q&A after the screening.

PREMIERE SCREENING — “SPEAK OUT SISTERS” (SOS) 2025 SPOTS & MUSIC VIDEO – Sexual and gender-based violence scarred countless Cambodian women during the Pol Pot years, and today 1 in 4 still face abuse—yet stigma keeps many silent. The SOS campaign, Meta House’s groundbreaking multimedia project, amplifies survivors’ voices through a bold series of short films based on real testimonies recorded by journalist Sokunthea Hang. Using AI-illustrated visuals to protect identities, these works confront SGBV across generations. The premiere includes a presentation by Sokunthea Hang and the debut of the campaign anthem by Cambodia’s “mother of hip-hop,” MC Lisha.

AND SO I STAYED (USA, 91 min, Dir. Natalie Patillo & Daniel A. Nelson): An award-winning documentary following survivors of domestic abuse who fought for their lives—only to spend years behind bars. The film exposes how deeply the justice system fails victims of domestic violence.

Trained in physical theatre in Mumbai and inspired by classical forms like Kathakali, Kudiyattam, and Bharatanatyam, she has received major recognitions including the INLAKS Grant (2019) and the KCC Art Fellowship (2020–21). Her award-winning solo play Happily Tagged Ever and her site-specific performance practice have earned her a reputation for bold, thoughtful experimentation.

At Meta House she presents her first film, the experimental short The Cosmic Atomic, Brahmandam Pindandam—a fusion of theatre, poetry, and striking visual language. The film is already touring internationally, with its European premiere in Greece and Asian premiere in Beijing later this year.
