We invite you to watch a set of films featuring the iconic photographer – including a previously unreleased docu by Meta House. DANGER ON THE EDGE OF TOWN (1991, 51min) follows photographer Tim Page, who sets out to discover what happened to his friends in Cambodia 20 years ago; REQUIEM (20 min) captures Tim Page and other famous war correspondents on their return to Vietnam; A NEW PAGE (2013, 26 min) documents Tim Page’s last photo project about land rights, including village exhibitions in the Cambodian countryside.

The screen is constantly filled with moments of wonder and beauty whether it is the dragon boat races, Buddhist monks chanting, festivals, children playing, a kickboxing match, rickshaws on the quiet streets, a theatrical reenactment of the legend of Rama, Sita, Ravana, and Hanuman and finally a visit to the grandeur of Angkor Wat.

At the age of 9, he was admitted to the Baogang Youth Palace to study the violin, and at 16, he began learning the guitar. In the 1990s, he was active on the nightclub and bar stages of Baotou and Chongqing as an accompaniment guitarist. As a documentary filmmaker, Su Qing continues to create soundtracks for his own films.

At Meta House, Su Qing will screen two of his short documentaries: “When Spring Comes” (2007, 20min)
“Industrial Times”+ “Menglun’s Time”, (2024, 35min).

This is followed by a live concert by Su Qing & Wei Hua (composer of numerous film and television soundtracks, singer, guitarist, and music produce).

It weaves together several different storylines from One Thousand and One Nights, and the resulting narrative is delightfully chaotic. Over five acts it tells a story of good versus evil played out between Prince Achmed and the ugly African magician, involving a magical flying horse, Princess Dinarsade, the demons of Wak Wak and the Princess Pari Banu, Aladdin, and a witch.

With a large cast of attractive young stars, the action moves quickly between town and country while telling the story of three young men who set out to win the affection of the girl of their dreams.

Written by British novelist, Matt Baylis (screenwriter for KMF’s second movie, the award-winning ‘Vanished’), ‘Palace of Dreams’, commissioned from KMF by BBC World Service Trust, was directed by Cambodian Tom Som and filmed by top British DoP Bill Broomfield.

And because Gaudi’s body of work is so vast, Teshigahara forgoes the artist’s ceramic work and instead spotlights his architectural and sculptural designs.

Yet in one of the 20th century’s most extreme examples of the effects of politics on popular culture, Cambodia’s pop scene — along with virtually every other manifestation of modern society there — was brutally stamped out with the 1975 arrival of the Khmer Rouge, whose nearly four-year reign led to the deaths of 1.7 million people.

Since then, pre-Khmer Rouge pop has survived in fragments, but the history behind it has remained frustratingly incomplete. Now, after a decade of research by an American filmmaker, John Pirozzi, that history has been told thoroughly in “Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten: Cambodia’s Lost Rock and Roll” (2014, 105 min).
