The SOS Women Film Fest features documentaries, dramas, and shorts by Cambodian female filmmakers. Tonight, we’ll screen two films by Sothea Ines.

Ines won her first international awards with the short film RICE (2014, 7 min), set in a children’s camp during the Khmer Rouge regime. Five years later she directed the feature film “RACHANA/VIPLAS” (2019, 110 min) about a female artist with bipolar disorder, who grew up in a family that was strongly affected by the genocide. Cambodia is said to have one of the world’s worst mental health statistics – largely due to the effects of Pol Pot’s murderous rule. Q&A with the filmmaker after screening.
