SIMA FESTIVAL (DAY 4: LABOR ISSUES, DISCRIMINATION, CONFLICT)

We invite you to the “Social Impact and Media Awards Festival” (SIMA), showcasing the best documentaries about human rights in our world today. Free Entrance. All films with English subtitles.

MINERITA (Bolivia, 7 min): This short film addresses the violence and danger that are part of everyday life for women and girls who live near the Potosi mine in Bolivia. Women share how they try to protect themselves from domestic violence, sexual violence, and the violence of working in the mines. The film provides insight into the brutal working conditions as well as the harsh physical and social climate that females face in this community.

BLACK MAMBAS (South-Africa, 81 min) are the first all-female anti-poaching unit in South Africa assigned to protect the Big Five (Elephants, Rhinos, Lions, Leopards, Buffalo) in the Greater Kruger Park. Chosen by the (mostly white male) conservation committees as a vital marketing tool, the women stand at the crossroads of progress and a colonial past.
