A 25-year-old French woman returns to South Korea, where she was born, for the very first time. She decides to look for her biological parents, but her journey takes a surprising turn. A moving search for identity in neon-drenched Seoul, French-Cambodian director Davy Chou’s mercurial drama RETURN TO SEOUL (2022, 119 min) aches with diasporic longing, which thrums through an exquisitely curated soundtrack. Dazzling in her vulnerability, first-time actress Park Ji-Min ferociously embodies the tragicomic chaos of living between cultures.
Davy Chou’s production company “Anti-Archive” is also behind MARG1N- a new SE Asian film magazine based in Phnom Penh. The inaugural issue, entitled “pirate.lov3r.2024.mkv”, highlights film analyses and writings from Cambodian and Filipino writers on the topic of “piracy as part of our cinema culture. Presented by Seng Savunthara, MARG1N editor-in-chief. Davy Chou will attend, too.
5 USD Admission.
