Event Details

The best thing about poetry is that there are no rules. You can express yourself in any way you see fit. Whether you’re writing about your deepest feelings or just describing the world around you…

At Meta House’s monthly poetry night POETRONICA, Cambodian and international writers play around with words and phrases (In Khmer and English), experiment with different meters and rhyme schemes, and let your imagination run wild. International artists throw live music and animations into the multi-media mix.

KOSAL KHIEV is a Khmer-American Spoken Word Poet and tattoo artist. He discovered poetry in solitary confinement in a US prison. Cambodian poet YENG CHHEANGLY feels that it is very important to capture reality with honesty and paint it with his words. CHAN SAMNANG – a speech pathologist by trade – belongs to the smaller group of Cambodian women poets. The English poetry of Cambodian writer CHOUN SOPHEAP is infused with dark symbolism and often deals with themes of Good vs. Evil. YOUNG YORN is a composer, singer, and musician who plays traditional Khmer music. Born in Kampong Thom, Young has been working with arts in Cambodia for more than ten years. MIGUEL JERONIMO is a freelance photographer and writer, artist, and poet from Lisbon, Portugal, based in Phnom Penh. JOSE ANTONIO PINEDA is a Salvadoran poet, actor, and author. In interviews, Pineda reflects that he was a co-founder of the Straight Theatre in Haight Ashbury in San Francisco in the 1960s. ECLECTIC UNIVERSE is the brainchild of animator JAMES SPECK, Radio DJ TIM SIROIS, and arts activist NICK E. META, who perform improvised electronic music together since 2014. Italians CARLO SANTORO and GIAN CLAUDIO DE CECCO present “The Extended Dimensions of Space,” a digital exploration of the fascinating mathematical realm of Strange Attractors. Kaleidoscopic and fading effects will be curated by Australian filmmaker DAVID BROWN.
