Please be our guests for the opening of Ny Sreroth’s first solo show BACK TO LIFE – THE HEALING POWER OF ART.
In a context where gender-based violence is often hidden in silence, Cambodian artist Ny Sreyroth uses her work to make the unseen visible. A survivor herself, she transforms deeply personal experiences into striking visual narratives that speak of resilience, courage, and hope. Her art does not only raise awareness—it opens space for dialogue, connection, and healing.
Now 34 and based in Phnom Penh, Sreyroth came to art through lived experience rather than formal training. During the COVID-19 pandemic, financial hardship and isolation led her to begin drawing as a way to process her emotions. What began as a private act of survival evolved into a powerful artistic voice that resonates with a growing audience.
In 2022, she survived a violent attack while working abroad – an experience that profoundly affected her sense of safety and identity. In the months that followed, she withdrew from public life. Her return to painting marked a turning point: through art, she gradually reclaimed her voice, rebuilding confidence and transforming pain into expressions of strength.
Today, Sreyroth is an emerging force in Cambodia’s contemporary art scene. Through her work and public performances, she challenges stigma, encourages women to speak out, and fosters spaces for reflection and empowerment.
Film Screening with director Sao Sopheak.
