Event Details

The First Indochina War was a momentous event in world history representing the second big payoff (after China) for Soviet ‘liberationist and anti-colonialist’ propaganda since the USSR switched its focus for global revolution away from Europe and to the East. Historian John Pike invites you to his book launch ‘Vietnam and the Cold War 1945-54: French Imperial decline-Dien Bien Phu’ (lecture & discussion). Mr. Pike is a military historian, economist and lawyer, as General Legal Counsel for a company listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Working in Asia, he participated as a special adviser in defense of Pol Pot’s deputy at the UN Khmer Rouge war crimes trials in Phnom Penh. From February/March 2024 onwards, Pike’s book will be found at the French Institute bookshop, or in Kinokuniya all over Asia, or can be pre-ordered online from well-known sites or the leading military history publisher Pen and Sword” (Barnsley, England).
