TRANSIT (2019, 1h 41min) is a German feature film written and directed by Christian Petzold. It is based on Anna Seghers’s 1944 novel of the same name and adapted to be set in the present. The film follows a refugee who impersonates a dead writer in an attempt to flee a fascist state. Petzold’s film is hauntingly brilliant, initially disconcerting in its lack of a clear time setting, only to metamorphose into a cogent reflection upon the current plight of and attitudes towards refugees globally.
