Event Details

A conscience-driven Japanese soldier traumatized by the events of WWII adopts the lifestyle of a Buddhist monk.
Nominated in the first year of the foreign-language Oscar, Kon Ichikawa’s THE BURMESE HARP (1956, 106 min) was innovative at the time with its anti-war spiritual message and lyrical imagery.
Beautiful in both tone and image, it is a slight film that suggests the heavy human toll of war without actually presenting it.
