Event Details

First time director David Leitch’s “Atomic Blond” (2017, 115 min) is an adaptation of Antony Johnston’s graphic novel The Coldest City. The setting is Berlin just before the fall of the Wall; the paranoid hangover of the cold war is giving way to a new era of hungry opportunism. Sensual and savage, Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is the most elite spy in MI6, an agent who’s willing to use all of her lethal skills to stay alive during an impossible mission. She travels into the heart of the city to retrieve a priceless dossier and take down a ruthless espionage ring. “Atomic Blond” is a delightfully swift film that pays no credence to past grey depictions of the Eastern Bloc. Instead, it insists that every hotel room be bathed in neon and every rain-streaked window should be smashed by a white-blonde Theron crashing through it.
