Event Details

A thousand years ago, the Khmer people in Cambodia built a kingdom that stretched a million square kilometres. Its capital was the lost jungle city of Angkor, once the largest city on earth. Now, a team of archaeologists are using a revolutionary technology called LIDAR to reveal the true scale and splendour of this abandoned megacity. This new laser technology has completely transformed archaeology in Angkor. The two-part BBC docu ANGKOR WAT – JUNGLE ATLANTIS (2016, 120 min) follows this story. By unlocking the secrets of how this vast city flourished, the team are shedding new light on the dramatic events leading to its fall. Their ground-breaking new work explains why the world’s greatest medieval metropolis was abandoned to the jungle.
