“A River Screams for Mercy – Murdering the Mekong” 2022, 30 min) is directed by Tom Fawthrop / Eureka Films. It provides an overview of the damage done by a virulent dam-fever – the primary culprit responsible for the current Mekong malaise and crisis.
The film looks at how the once ‘Mighty Mekong’ has been brought to the brink of ecological oblivion by the building of dam after dam.
Tom Fawthrop has directed four documentaries on the Mekong damming. The first “Where have all the Fish Gone?” was released in 2012 and screened on Thai PBS TV and two films were screened at CIFF/and other international film festivals.
Tom was based in Phnom Penh from 1993 until 2004 as a regional correspondent working for The Economist/Asia Times and contributed to Al Jazeera TV. He will present the film and hold a Q&A.
