Emerging from the raw energy following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Berlin techno became more than music. It was a movement — a soundtrack of reunification where East and West connected through rhythm inside abandoned industrial spaces. Defined by openness, anonymity, and creative freedom, the culture grew into one of the world’s most influential electronic music scenes and was officially recognized in 2024 as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
