Event Details
In just four days this December, Belgian photographer John Vink (Magnum, 1997–2017) visited 18 safe-haven sites across Cambodia, documenting the lives of families displaced by the recent border conflict with Thailand. More than 500,000 people have been uprooted. For many Cambodians, these images reopen memories of 1975, of flight, exile, and years spent in refugee and IDP camps along the Thai border— places John Vink himself photographed as early as 1989.
Tonight’s projection connects those histories with the present. Vink’s photographs from refugee camps around the world remind us that displacement is a shared, global reality: in 2025, a record 122 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide.
The evening features a curated selection of images and the introduction of Vink’s book “Their Name is Piehsak”. Copies will be available, with all proceeds supporting displaced families.
The screening is followed by a Q&A and book signing with the artist.
An evening to look, remember, and stand in solidarity.
