Event Details

Richard Brook’s 1965 film adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s LORD JIM, starring Peter O’Toole, was one of the first major Western films shot in Cambodia. Filming took place in 1964, utilizing the temples and jungles around Angkor Wat in Siem Reap for location shooting. The production was described as a difficult, “nightmare” shoot due to the environment. The production faced corruption, dangerous wildlife, and political instability, causing a 12-week schedule to be cut to nine, and leading to a ban on O’Toole by Prince Sihanouk.
The film stars O’Toole, James Mason, Curt Jürgens, Eli Wallach, Jack Hawkins, Paul Lukas, and Daliah Lavi.
