Homosexuality and gay sex are legal everywhere in Indonesia except in Aceh, where lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people face legal challenges and prejudices. Since 2014, at least six men have been publicly caned for having gay sex, including two men who received 77 lashes in 2021. The documentary “Bulu Mata” (Eye Lashes) by Indonesian director Tonny Trimarsanto (2015, 60 min) investigates the situation.
