What if teenagers didn’t wait for solutions, but created their own? In Cambodia, 14 students aged 14–16 took on plastic pollution and community responsibility through an entirely student-driven theatre project.

Hirayama seems utterly content with his simple life as a cleaner of toilets in Tokyo. Outside of his very structured everyday routine he enjoys his passion for music and for books. And he loves trees and takes photos of them. A series of unexpected encounters gradually reveal more of his past.

Marcel Camus’ BIRD OF PARADISE (1962, 95 min) – a spiritual journey into culture, myth, Buddhism, death, and reincarnation – was the first European feature film production in Cambodia.

Sok, a young and imaginative boy, leaves the Buddhist monkhood to seek a more adventurous life. Tith, a friendly fortune-teller, gives him a bird of paradise, which leads him to the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

Mia (Katie Jarvis) is a rebellious teenager on the verge of being kicked out of school. Her hard-partying mother, Joanne (Kierston Wareing), neglects Mia’s welfare in favor of her own, and her younger sister (Rebecca Griffiths) hangs out with a much older crowd. Sparks fly between Mia and Connor (Michael Fassbender), Joanne’s new boyfriend, and he encourages Mia to pursue her interest in dance. As the boundaries of the relationships become blurred, Mia and Joanne compete for Connor’s affection.
